A Personal "Thank You"

image A while back, I sent out an email to my newsletter readers asking if they had any questions that they would like answered on my site.  Some people had questions, some people didn’t . I stated in the email that those asking good questions would receive a free “gift” from me.

Unfortunately, I haven’t really got around to actually answering the questions that people asked in the detail that I’d like to.  I promise I will do that in one form or another. Please bear with me.

I would, however, like to make good on my promise to provide the gifts.  And hopefully, they will help you improve your jazz guitar playing.

Thank You

Before I get around to the gifts, I want to say thanks. Thanks, not only to those who will be receiving the gifts but to all who have made comments on the site encouraging me to push forward. I plan on making this one of the best jazz guitar learning sites in the world.  It will take hard work and dedication. Actually, it already has! But, I’m happy to know that there are people out there who appreciate my hard work. Ok, moving right along…

The Gifts

So, what exactly are the gifts?  I giving away 2 jazz guitar books by Mark Elf.  If you’ve taken a look at my Three Types of Jazz Guitar Improvisers article, you’ve seen Mark in action(the 3rd video) and you know that he’s a great player.

Mark has a series of books entitled “Jazz Interpretations” where he has written out 5 solos or etudes in his style over each of 3 separate jazz standards.

Volume 1: “Stella by Starlight”. Volume 2: “Just Friends” and Volume 3:”All the Things You Are”.  I have one extra copy each of Volumes 1 and 3. So, I’m giving these 2 volumes away.

The books have really helped me bring my knowledge together. But you have to understand the notes he plays and why because the books just have the solos in them in standard notation, tablature and chord symbols.  That’s it. There’s no analysis of the notes and no audio CD of him playing the solos. So, the books aren’t for beginners.

But I’ve found that working through some of the solos has helped me improve my melodic concept.

The Lucky Winners

Ok, so here’s the moment of truth. The gifts are going to………….. Ken (Volume 1) and Jonathan (Volume 3). I’ll be contacting you to get your addresses to send the books out.

Actually, I was only planning on giving away 2 gifts since I only have 2 gifts to give away at this time, but I’m going to give away another.  That gift is going to Job. I’ll have to figure out an alternative gift for you, Job. Don’t worry, it’ll be good!

Again, I’d like to thank all three of you for helping improve my site.

For those who are interested in purchasing any or all of the books, go to the Recommended Resources page. There’s also a link and the very top of this page.

Thanks again and happy playing.

Leon
